10 Uses For Your Old Toothbrush

Tuesday, September 26, 2017 04:24 PM

One thing that few people ever think about is the environmental impact of oral health. Around the world, millions of toothbrushes are used and thrown away which is a tremendous waste of what is an extremely useful tool. You probably know that switching off the tap while brushing is a great water saver but did you know that your humble brush can be used for an assortment of things once it is no longer suitable for cleaning your teeth?

In theory, you should get 3 months out of each brush assuming you brush your teeth for two minutes, twice a day. Once the bristles have worn down however, you don’t need to toss the brush in the dustbin just yet! Here are a few surprising uses for your trusty old brush:

  1. Scrubbing bathroom tiles.
  2. Cleaning numerous kitchen appliances.
  3. Providing your jewelry with an extra sheen.
  4. Shining your shoes.
  5. Cleaning your computer keyboard.
  6. Cleaning those hard to reach places on your bike.
  7. Removing stubborn dirt from your fingernails.
  8. Combing your eyebrows.
  9. Children’s painting projects.
  10. Dusting off old artifacts you find in your garage.

Why Are Toothbrushes So Useful?

The design of the modern toothbrush has helped increase its versatility. The majority of brushes are now end-rounded and are made with nylon bristles. When the brush gets wet, its composition changes slightly which makes the brush even better at cleaning.

The grip of the handle is also a major factor in the usefulness of toothbrushes. Unlike scouring pads or similar cleaning implements, a toothbrush’s handle is easy to hold even while wet so you can fully focus on the cleaning task at hand.

Before you think about throwing out your old toothbrush, pause for a minute and consider its many uses. As well as having a versatile cleaning tool, you will also be doing the environment a favor.
